Simulation of Tactical Communications Systems by Inferring Detailed Data from the Joint Theater-Level Computer-Aided Exercises

Abstract: A new scheme for the simulation of tactical communications systems is introduced in which the mobility, call, and availability patterns for communications equipment are generated by using the data inferred from joint theater-level battle simulations. In this technique, the mobility, strength, and posture data related to military units are stored in a database by a military constructive simulation system during computer-aided exercises. Then, the mobility, call, and availability patterns for the communications … Show more

“…Several researchers have studied SoS-based modeling, which is similar to our approach. For example, in Cayirci and Ersoy's work [37], military operational data were unilaterally delivered to a communication model for performance analysis of the communication system. Because of one-way transmission from operational to communication simulations, they could not analyze the mission effectiveness of the defense CPSs given the communication effects.…”

“…NATO training federation (NTF) is a multi resolution HLA federation derived from JMRM, and successfully used in a major NATO exercise first time in 2008. Initial NTF has two combat models, namely joint theatre level simulation (JTLS) (Cayirci 2002) and joint conflict and tactical simulation (JCATS). JTLS is a joint highly aggregated constructive simulation system.…”

“…CITACS is a simulation system developed in the Network Laboratory (NETLAB) of Bogazici University. Our mobility model is based on real war game simulation data obtained from the Joint Theater Level Simulation JTLS [22]. We use two scenarios; the first has two hours duration, 4466 MPRs, and 26 RAPs.…”
