Simulation of the BESIII endcap time of flight upgrade

Abstract: The results of a full simulation of an endcap time of flight detector upgrade based on multigap resistive plate chambers for the BESIII experiment are presented. The simulation and reconstruction software is based on Geant4 and has been implemented into the BESIII Offline Software System. The results of the simulations are compared with beam test results and it is shown that a total time resolution σ of about 80 ps can be achieved allowing for a pion and kaon separation up to momenta of 1.4 GeV/c at a 95% conf… Show more

“…Each end cap station has 36 trapezoidally shaped MRPC modules arranged in a circular double layers [20] and adjacent modules are staggered slightly to avoid dead regions. The inner and outer radii of the effective areas of the MRPC rings are 501 and 822 mm, respectively.…”

“…Since we are studying a case where the photon resolution is poor compared to the charged particle resolution, the final state charged particles (π + , π − and p) are folded with 1% resolution [16,17] in the momentum components to simulate a detectorlike effect, whereas 6% resolution is used for the photons. There are experiments that suffer from poor photon resolution for which 6% is rather an underestimation [18].…”
