Simulation of the fluid structure interaction for an aerostatic bearing and a flexible substrate

Abstract: The fluid structure interaction for an aerostatic bearing and a substrate is solved numerically by a semi-analytical model, programmed in the software package MATLAB. This semi-analytical model uses a fluidic network of resistances and capacities to solve the pressure field in the bearing channel. These pressures are sent to a mechanical module, which computes the substrate deformations by the direct stiffness method. This semi-analytical model is verified by a second model, built into the commercial software … Show more

“…The load carrying capacity and rotational speed of the liquid metal bearing in a CT tube are challenged by the gradually increasing thermal capacities of tubes (figure 36). Goraj [237] and Olieslagers et al [238] deduced a semi-analytical solution of the bearing equilibrium position and clarified the ultimate load carrying capacity of the bearing. When the working load exceeds the ultimate load carrying capacity, the load carrying capacity should be improved by redesigning and optimizing the bearing system, either by improving the bearing area or assigning micro-structures or micro-textures.…”
