Simulation Optimization for Optimal Sizing of Water Transfer Systems

Abstract: Water transfer development projects (WTDPs) could be considered in arid and semi-arid areas in response to uneven distribution of available water resources over space. This paper presents a simulation-optimization model by linking Water Evaluation and Planning System (WEAP) to particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm for optimal design and operation of the Karoon-to-Zohreh Basin WTDP in Iran. PSO searches for optimal values of design and operation variables including capacities of water storage and transfer… Show more

“…In response to uneven distribution of available water resources over space [ANZAB et al 2016 To overcome this water shortage, management authorities in the lower Seybouse valley (Fig. 2), initiate several major projects for a few years were based primarily on supply management, as the construction of dams (Bouguousse, Bouhamdane, Bouhalloufa) and planning a sea water desalination plant [BOUK- LIA-HASSANE et al 2016].…”

“…Many studies have been conducted on the application of the PSO algorithm in different fields of water resources (Reddy and Kumar (2007), Nagesh , Izquierdo et al (2008), Daraeikhah et al (2009)). The PSO algorithm has been used in multi-dams systems and hybrid simulation-optimization structures as a single objective (Zhang et al (2011), Vasan (2013) and Rafiei Anzab et al (2016)).…”
