Simulative method for the optical processor reconfiguration on a dynamically reconfigurable optical platform

Abstract: With the reconfiguration technique, users can configure the optical processor of a new optical computing platform, the ternary optical computer (TOC), into 42 specific basic operation units, and reconfigure it when the computation is completed. A simulative method of software for this technique is proposed in this paper. Also, an elaborate experiment based on this software is discussed. This simulation of reconfiguration demonstrates that the theory of reconfiguring optical processor in TOC is valid and also l… Show more

“…Different technologies can be used to implement this switching behavior. Like some of the recent optical processors [36,37,39], the presented processor can use polarized light and liquid crystals for switching: both light sources can produce horizontally polarized light and the cells that block the light can change the polarization direction of light 90 degrees using liquid crystals. Then vertically polarized light can be ignored as blocked.…”

“…Some of the past parallel optical processors use technologies like self-electro-optic effect devices (SEED) [61], electron trapping devices [62,63], liquid crystals [36,37], and spatial light modulators [64] for optical logic implementation and optical switching and modulation. Louri et al [64][65][66][67] and Choo et al [68] used such devices in their optical parallel database architectures.…”

“…At the end of 2018, following the reconfigurable ternary (i.e., three-valued) optical processor structure [5,6], a typical structure of reconfigurable multi-valued logic (MVL) electronic operator was invented by Jin et al [7,8], opening the way for new technology for encrypting and decrypting digital files and streaming data information [9]. After more than four years of research, a new encryption technology, which uses the 32-quit reconfigurable quaternary (i.e., four-valued) logic operator (RQLO) to realize a practical one-time pad (OTP) method, has been theoretically and experimentally verified.…”
