“…The hBend RIA was performed as described (35) (37), slightly modified in our laboratory (38). Briefly, frozen tissues were ground in liquid nitrogen, then homogenized at 4VC in a Waring blender in 20 volumes (wt/vol) of prechilled 0.02 M sodium acetate buffer, pH 5, containing 7 M guanidine-HCl.…”

“…The arterial catheter was used to sample blood and the splenic vein was used to infuse insulin and glucagon at basal levels. Angiocaths sured by a radioimmunoassay using '25l-labeled tracer and rabbit antihBE antiserum (13).…”

“…After suppression of the pituitary hypersecretion by cortisol in a patient with Addison's disease, Bertagna et al (1981) observed a rapid fall in both immunoreactive 7-1ipotropin and immunoreactive fl-lipotropin including fl-endorphin. The initial and secondary half-lifes (tl/2) of 7-1ipotropin were 80 and 170min, and for fl-lipotropin/fl-endorphin 100 and 180min.…”

“…Although in the various studies a variety of doses has been used to assess the pharmacokinetic data, generally the half-life of fl-endorphin found is in the order of 20-50 min. There is a tendency that the half-life of fl-lipotropin is somewhat longer than that of fl-endorphin as indicated by studies on endogenous as well as exogenous fl-lipotropin and endorphins (Aronin et al, 1981;Bertagna et al, 1981). Slower disappearance rates are found after suppressing the pituitary secretion by cortisol.…”
