The voltammetric behavior of three cephalosporins: ceftazidime, cefuroximeaxetil and ceftriaxone has been examined in pH range 2.08.0 by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), using a hanging mercury drop electrode (HMDE). The effect of pH of the electrolyte solution and scan rate on the peak currents and peak potentials was examined. The nature of the electrode reduction process in acid solution was found to be diffusion controlled for ceftazidime and cefuroxime-axetil, but strongly influenced by adsorption in the case of ceftriaxone reduction. The adsorption and reorientation of the ceftriaxone molecule at the electrode surface caused instability of the voltammetric signal and disabled its determination in the acid medium. Ceftriaxone adsorption decreased with the increase of pH, and at pH>7 the reduction process became diffusion controlled. Based on this study, DPV method was developed, validated and suggested for determination of ceftazidime at pH 2.0, cefuroxime-axetil at pH 3.5 and for ceftriaxone at pH 8.0. Linear concentration ranges, limits of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) were determined. The method was applied for determination of cephalosporins in pharmaceutical dosage forms: Ceftazidime powder, Ceroxim tablets and Longaceph powder for injection solution.

The difference of urine crystallites under 1000 nm in 10 patients with urolithiasis and 10 healthy subjects with no history of urolithiasis was comparatively studied with the nanoparticle size analyzer. By comparing the differences of intensity-autocorrelation curve, polydispersity index (PDI), Zeta potential, and relative error of average diameter of the two kinds of urine crystallites, it was concluded that the urine crystallites of healthy subjects were more stable than those of patients. The urine crystallites of healthy subjects had a narrower size distribution from 100 nm to 350 nm and a better dispersion (PDI < 0.3). However, the urine crystallites of patients with urolithiasis had a wider distribution from dozens of nanometers to 1000 nm and a worse dispersion (PDI > 0.5). The best processing method for urine crystallites detection was found: after antisepticising and protein-coagulating with formaldehyde, the urine was diluted with distilled water of the same volume, then filtrated through a micropore film of 3 microm, and the filtrate was centrifugalized at 4000 rpm for 15 minutes. This method can remove the cell fragments and macromolecular substances in the urine without affecting the detection of the urine crystallites under 1000 nm. The results were consistent with those obtained by transmission electron microscope (TEM).

In this work Cefotoxime (CFX) and its Cd (II) and Cu (II) metal complexes determination were carried out by spectrophotometric method. The following experimental procedures like effect of pH, effect of metal ion concentration, effect of drug concentration, effect of time, effect of organic solvents and the composition of the complex by mole ratio and job's continuous variation method and interference studies were carried out for the determination of metal ions and drug. In this research work, it is clear that Cd forms a stable 1:1 colored complex with CFX in basic medium and Cu forms stable 1:1 colored complex with CFX in acidic medium. Effect of pH was studied for CFX-Cd (II) and CFX-Cu (II) complexes; it is noticed from that at pH 11 CFX-Cd (II) and at pH 5.5 CFX-Cu (II) colored complexes were formed. In these reactions can be found the metal ions in the range 1.12 to 6.74 and 3.812 to 8.895 µg/ml and the drug in the range 0.02 to 0.14 mg/ml respectively for CFX-Cu (II) and CFX-Cu (II) complexes. Effect of time clearly suggest , that the maximum absorbance is obtained only after heating the mixture to 40 o & 60°C respectively for CFX-Cd (II) and CFX-Cu (II) complexes. It has been observed that the absorbance values remain constant thereafter; it indicates the formation of 1:1 stable metal complexes.
