Simultaneous Determination of Cobalt and Nickel in Wastewater with 2-Hydroxyl-5-benzeneazoformoamithiozone by Spectral Correction Technique

Abstract: A new chromogenic reagent, 2-hydroxyl-5-benzeneazoformoamithiozone (HBASA) was synthesized and it can complex Co(II) and Ni(II) at pH 6.0 with high sensitivity and good selectivity. The complexations were characterized by a spectral correction technique. Complexes Co(HBASA)2 and Ni(HBASA) were formed and their stepwise stability constants (Kn) and stepwise molar absorptivities (en) were worked out. The spectral correction matrix method was applied to the simultaneous determination of Co and Ni. At the range fr… Show more

“…Moreover, nickel can cause a disorder known as nickel-eczema [1,2]. Nickel is an excellent alloying metal in steel industry and is the metal component of the enzyme urease and as such is considered to be essential to plants and some domestic animals [3]. This metal normally occurs at very low level in the environment, so sensitive methods are needed to detect it in most environmental samples.…”

“…have been used for the simultaneous determination of these ions in different samples. Among the most widely used analytical methods are those based on the UV-Vis spectrophotometric techniques [6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13] due to the resulting experimental rapidity, simplicity and the wide application. However, the simultaneous determination of these ions by the use of the traditional spectrophotometric techniques is difficult because, generally, the absorption spectra overlap in a bright region and the superimposed curves are not suitable for quantitative evaluation.…”
