“…In real samples, the measured Cu content was consistent with statements on the labels, whereas all Cd levels were below the analytical LOD. Vieira et al 81 developed a procedure for the simultaneous determination of Fe and Zn in dried blood spot samples. The work undertaken included assessments of blood volume and spot size, reproducibility among discs cut from the same dried spot, potential for contamination as well as validation of the heating programme and modifiers, used for the analysis.…”

“…The HR-CS-GFAAS technique was mainly applied for the simultaneous or sequential multi-element analysis of foodstuffs, 82,87,109,123,125,92,93,99,[102][103][104]106,108 environmental media, 79,82,111,112,117,122,85,86,90,94,96,100,108,110 crude oil [75][76][77] and biological specimens. 80,107 Twenty-eight elements were determined by this technique and Fe, Ni, Cd and Co were the most frequently examined. Simultaneous or sequential multi-element analysis was mainly based on the determination of two elements, with a few exceptions where three or four elements were studied (Tables 2 and 3).…”

“…In cases where a single element is to be monitored, high-resolution continuum source graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometer (HR CS GFAAS) can offer a robust performance, providing low limits of detection, good signal stability and potential to detect and correct for spectral overlaps, [31][32][33][34][35] ideally relying on external calibration with aqueous standard solutions only. Such technique has been seldom evaluated in the past for this type of samples (only for Pb, 36 and for Fe and Zn, 37 in addition to an earlier work that used line source GFAAS 38 ). Moreover, in those cases, "traditional" DBSs, where a larger amount of blood is deposited and later some areas are punched out, were deployed, which can translate into some of the problems discussed before (e.g., heterogeneous analyte distribution).…”
