Simultaneous Determination of Synthetic Dyes Tartrazine, Allura Red and Sunset Yellow by Differential Pulse Polarography and Partial Least Squares. A Multivariate Calibration Method

Abstract: Synthetic azo dyes, such as tartrazine, sunset yellow and allura red have sensitive polarographic waves in solution (pH 9.2). However, the dyes polarographic waves are seriously overlapped making their simultaneous determination difficult without previous sample preparation. The aim of this work was to apply partial least squares (PLS) multivariate calibration to such commonplace electrochemical technique as differential pulse polarography (DPP) for the simultaneous determination of the dye's three component m… Show more

“…Various methods such as spectrophotometry [4], high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) [1,5], and spectrophotometry with chemometric analysis [6,7] have been reported for determination of SY and Tz. Moreover, voltammetric methods [2,[8][9][10][11] have been used for their determination based on electroactivity of SY and Tz.…”

“…Distribution of the types of coloring additives used in food in the 1992 world market [23]. [37], a method was developed for the determination of the synthetic food colorants Tartrazine, Allura Red, and Sunset Yellow by DPP. Using as a response, for the three analytes, the signal intensity related to the reduction of the azo to hydrazo group on the surface of a DME, linear relationships were obtained between 0.050 and 7.5, 0.050 and 7.5, and 0.050 and 10 µmol L…”

“…To avoid time-consuming clean-up procedures, attempts to resolve complex spectra by using instrumental approaches or various chemometric methods have been made. Derivative techniques (Altionz and Toptan 2002;Altinoz and Toptan 2003;Kiroglu and Ozdemir 2000) and multivariate statistical analysis (Koyuncu et al 2003;Oveisi et al 2003;Dinc et al 2002;Lopez-de-Alba et al 2002;Pravdova et al 2002;Berzas Nevado et al 1999) have been successfully applied to the multi-component analysis of mixtures by UV/Vis molecular absorption spectrophotometry. All these approaches are useful for the reduction of band-overlapping errors in quantitative analysis, but they are often used for more complex mixtures.…”
