Simultaneous early adenocarcinoma and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma of the stomach associated with Helicobacter pylori infection

Abstract: The simultaneous association of gastric carcinoma with gastric lymphoma is a rare event. Recent studies have suggested that not only gastric cancer but also primary gastric lymphomas, especially those of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) type, are associated with Helicobacter pylori infection. We report on a 51-year-old woman who was referred to our hospital for the evaluation of abnormal shadows revealed by an upper gastrointestinal radiography series. Endoscopy of the upper gastrointestinal tract reve… Show more

“…only been considered a major pathogenic factor for chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer, gastric cancer and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma of the stomach, (8,9) it has also been found to be closely related to chronic liver disease. (10) First discovered in 1992, infection with H. hepaticus was shown to cause chronic active hepatitis that ultimately induced the development of hepatocellular tumours in A/JCr mice.…”

“…It is well known that both gastric adenocarcinoma and gastric MALToma are related to Helicobacter pylori infection (12 -15) and, interestingly, cases of simultaneous gastric MALT lymphoma and adenocarcinoma have been reported (16). The genetic susceptibility of the host makes the difference between the high number of patients with H. pylori infection and the small number of patients who develop gastric MALToma.…”
