Simultaneous Intercalation of 1‐Naphthylacetic Acid and Indole‐3‐butyric Acid into Layered Double Hydroxides and Controlled Release Properties

Abstract: Controlled release formulations have been shown to have potential in overcoming the drawbacks of conventional plant growth regulators formulations. A controlled-release formulation of 1-naphthylacetic acid (NAA) and indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) simultaneous intercalated MgAl-layered double hydroxides (LDHs) was prepared. The synthetic nanohybrid material was characterized by various techniques, and release kinetics was studied. NAA and IBA anions located in the gallery of MgAl-LDHs with bilayer arrangement, and… Show more

“…Besides, the basal spacing of the (003) plane decreased from 7.82271Å in the case of LDH to 7.58808Å in Zn-Al LDH/cefotax, which revealed a less effective penetration of cefotax into the Zn-Al/LDH interlayers. [39][40][41] This diminishing may refer to one of the following reasons: the removal of water molecules, rearrangement of Zn/ Al ions, and partial replacement of chloride ions by cefotax molecules or the adsorption of cefotax molecules on the surface of LDH via hydrogen-bonding, 42 as per the scheme submitted. Also, the d003 of the LDH and LDH/cefotax Nano composite was double that of d006 signifying a good layer structure.…”

“…Application of the layered material as a nanometer-sized host has garnered considerable attention due to its good biocompatibility, low cytotoxicity, ease of laboratory preparation, and ease of tailoring for required physical and chemical properties. [1][2][3][4][5] Simultaneous intercalation of two or more anions into the interlayer region of LDH was previously attempted with amino acids, 6 ligand and ligation activator, 7 diagnosis and therapy agents, [8][9][10] herbicides, [11][12][13] polymers, 14 nucleoside monophosphates, 15 and isomeric benzoates. 16 There is a notable paucity of scientific literature investigating interlayer region intercalation of two or more ultraviolet (UV) ray absorbents.…”

“…Li et al [26] synthesized two MgAl-LDHs (Mg/Al molar ratio = 2.0) intercalated with NAA and IBA, and evaluated the influence of temperature, pH value, and electrolyte solutions on the in vitro release. At a temperature of 25 °C, the release of NAA and IBA was quick in the first 100 min, followed by a gradual release profile.…”
