Abstract: Gastric peristalsis is governed by electrical "slow waves" generally assumed to travel from proximal to distal stomach (antegrade propagation) in symmetric rings. While alternative slow wave patterns have been correlated with gastric disorders, their mechanisms and how they alter contractions remain understudied.
