Simultaneous removal of five triazole fungicides from synthetic solutions on activated carbons and cyclodextrin-based adsorbents

Abstract: In this study, an adsorption-oriented process for the removal of fungicides from polycontaminated aqueous solutions was applied. To remove triazole fungicides from aqueous mixtures of propiconazole (PROPI), tebuconazole (TEBU), epoxiconazole (EPOXI), bromuconazole (BROMU) and difenoconazole (DIFENO), several materials used as adsorbents were compared using batch experiments, namely two conventional activated carbons (ACs) and five nonconventional cross-linked cyclodextrin (CD)-based materials (α-CDP, β-CDP, γ-… Show more

“…e experimental data of tebuconazole and linuron removal for 360 min and the fitting parameters are shown in Table 2 and Figure 5. It is observed that the sorption process of the two pesticides by BCF600 was relatively quick, which was consistent with Grégorio Crini (2017) [76]. After 120 min, there were no obvious differences between 180 min and 360 min, and therefore, 180 min was considered to be a sufficient equilibrium time for tebuconazole and linuron to be adsorbed onto BCF600.…”

“…Removing of difenoconazole by remediation was also investigated in previous studies. Several adsorbents for difenoconazole extraction from water were also suggested, such as cyclodextrin-based adsorbents, mesoporous activated carbon and graphene-based compounds [ 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 ].…”

“…However, treatment with synthetic fungicides has frequently limited or no effect in the control of Fusarium diseases [ 40 , 41 ]. Moreover, the massive use of synthetic agrochemicals has negative impacts on the environment [ 42 , 43 , 44 ], public health [ 45 , 46 ], and food security [ 47 , 48 ]. Therefore, there is a need to explore new management strategies that are both efficient and environmentally friendly, such as those relying on biological control agents [ 44 , 49 , 50 ].…”
