Simultaneous separation and determination of four active ingredients in Picria fel‐terrae Lour. and its preparations by micellar electrokinetic chromatography

Abstract: Introduction: Picfeltarraenins IA, IB and IV and acteoside are the four bioactive ingredients of Picria fel-terrae Lour. Their pharmacological effects include central inhibitory, cardiovascular, anti-inflammatory, anti-pyretic, analgesic, anti-bacterial, antioxidative and anti-tumor effects. Objective: We aimed to develop an efficient micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC) method modified with mixed organic solvents for the simultaneous separation and determination of the four components in Picriae Herba… Show more

“…As a common anionic surfactant, SDS can improve the separation efficiency with increasing concentration, but a too high concentration will lead to an increase in electrical conductivity, resulting in a decrease in separation efficiency. In MEKC, it can adjust the component capacity factor as in chromatography, change the viscosity and zeta potential of the solution, and thus improve the separation selectivity of MEKC 34 . The addition of SDS improved the separation degree of the seven analytes, but the peaks of Gomisin H, D, E, and N could not be completely separated, and the peaks were poor in shape.…”

Therefore, we considered adding organic modifiers.…”

“…Using micellar as pseudostationary phases, analytes are separated by differential partitioning between the micelle phase and the aqueous phase in MEKC [ 21 ]. On account of the characteristics of surfactants, both ionic compounds and neutral compounds could be separated by MEKC, which is especially suitable for the analysis of complex compounds extracted from TCMs [ 24 ]. Thus, in this paper, the MEKC mode of CE was selected for detection and separation of the components in SYTZQ.…”
