“…Thus, in addition to the loss by death of animals, brachiaria poisoning may be the and underneath factor related to increased susceptibility to another diseases and loss of productivity, since some lambs, able to survive the toxicosis, become poor doers that are not economical feasible to raise. Although there are reports that animals susceptible to the poisoning by certain plants demonstrate lesser development degrees and productivity and reproduction, and decreased resistance to verminosis (Oliveira Júnior et al 2011), there are no reports of this latter aspect and brachiaria poisoning. Cases of wasting associated with brachiaria poisoning are reported in cattle (Riet-Correa et al 2002, Souza et al 2010.…”

“…Consumption of the plant is an important cause of losses in goats in the north and northeastern Brazilian regions (ARMIÉN et al, 2007;OLIVEIRA et al, 2009;PIMENTEL et al, 2012) and has been also diagnosed in cattle in the Pantanal region of Mato Grosso (ANTONIASSI et al, 2007). Normally, grazing livestock do not ingest I. carnea, but anecdotal accounts by livestock producers suggest that goats and cattle that start to consume the plant develop the habit to ingest it compulsively, even with sufficient alternative forage (ARMIÉN et al, 2007;TOKARNIA et al, 2007;OLIVEIRA et al, 2009OLIVEIRA et al, , 2011. This behavior, defined by farmers as addiction (or strong preference), is not observed in sheep (ADRIEN et al, 2013b).…”

“…Dentre os exemplares que compõem a família, o gênero Ipomoea reúne plantas tóxicas com epidemiologia relevantes, devido à variabilidade de espécies e concentração de seus princípios ativos (Mendonça et al, 2018). Estudos comprovam que espécies dessa família podem provocar além de desordens neurológicas, alterações endócrinas e reprodutivas nos animais (Oliveira Júnior et al, 2011).…”
