“…The Ce concentration varies slightly among crystals from the same batch and was determined individually for each crystal by quantitative wavelength dispersive electron microprobe analysis (WDX).The Ce concentration in the a-b plane of each crystal was found to be constant within experimental resolution of ∆x=±0.01. Sometimes the nominal composition of the feed rod may be very different from that of the as-grown single crystals, for example, the doped concentration difference between the feed rod and the as-grown single crystals is big in La 2-x Ba x CuO 4 single crystals when Ba content increases beyond 0.1 [11]. For Nd 2-x Ce x CuO 4-y single crystals, the difference of them is very small, shown in Fig.2.…”

“…For the solvents, the composition of staring materials was much richer in CuO as self-flux, which was typically of 78 mol% in content. In determining the Sr contents of the solvents corresponding to the various Sr doping levels of present interest, we took into account the previously reported results of distribution coefficients k Sr of Sr doping into La 2 CuO 4 [14]. After ground and mixed the starting mixtures were prefired in air at 970 °C for 15 hours, they were then ground and mixed again before pressed into pellets of about 700 mg.…”

“…LSCO system is therefore not only attractive in its possible applications but also in such fundamental research. For both purposes, highquality and sizeable single crystals are highly demanded, and persistent effort has been made in the crystal growth using different techniques [7][8][9][10][11][12]. The travelling-solvent floatingzone (TSFZ) method is widely accepted as a unique approach to growing such incongruent melting oxide superconductor crystals.…”
