Single‐dose pharmacokinetics of oxytetracycline and penicillin G in tammar wallabies (Macropus eugenii)

Abstract: The pharmacokinetics of oxytetracycline and penicillin G was investigated in tammar wallabies (Macropus eugenii). Groups of eight healthy tammar wallabies were administered i.v. oxytetracycline hydrochloride (40 mg/kg), i.m. long-acting-oxytetracycline (20 mg/kg), i.v. sodium penicillin G (30 mg/kg), or i.m. procaine/benzathine penicillin G (30 mg/kg). Plasma concentrations of oxytetracycline were determined using high-performance liquid chromatography. Pharmacokinetic parameters were comparable to those repor… Show more

“…The linearity of the calibration curve of the analytical method is excellent with regression coefficient > 0.999, and all the samples measured in this study were above the LOQ. The pharmacokinetics of OTC in this study was performed using a non-compartmental model (25,26). Its simplicity, objectivity, and practicability favor its use for description of the time course of drug concentrations in the body (17,27).…”

Moreover, the PK studies of OTC-LA were expanded to some wildlife, tammar wallabies (McLelland et al, 2011) and reptiles such as American alligators (Helmick et al, 2004) and freshwater crocodiles (Poapolathep et al, 2020).…”
