Single-feed dual-band circularly polarised microstripantenna

Abstract: A novel technique for obtaining dual-hand circular polarisation (CP) radiation of a single-feed circular microstrip antenna in proposed and demonstrated . By embedding two pain of arcshaped slots of proper lengths close to the boundary of a circular patch, and protniding one of the arc-shaped slots with a narrow slit, the circular micr(strip antenna can perform dual-hand Cl' radiation using a single probe feed. Details of the antenna design and experimental results are presented.Introduction: Dual-frequency op… Show more

“…While many designs for dual band patches can be found in literature [14,15], they typically suffer from the lack of an adequate number of parameters to successfully satisfy gain, polarization purity and matching requirements at the two operation frequencies. More effective solutions, such as the one proposed in [16], are based on a stacked structure, a solution which could potentially limit the antenna integration.…”

“…Coupling fed by a top-loaded circular disk [15], the antenna is etched on two substrates with an air layer. Compared with a single-feed microstrip antenna [16][17][18], the capacitive coupling feeding technique can effectively improve the impedance bandwidth. The obtained impedance bandwidths across the operating band of the proposed antenna are about 15.4% (2.28 GHz ∼ 2.66 GHz) and 5.0% (3.76 GHz ∼ 3.95 GHz), the 3-dB AR bandwidths are about 3.7% (2.36 GHz ∼ 2.45 GHz) and 1.9% (3.76 GHz ∼ 3.83 GHz), respectively.…”

“…In [7], although the frequency ratio can be reduced by an unequal cross-slot loaded in the ground plane, it leads bidirectional radiation patterns and besides adds to the disadvantage of integrated system at the same time. A square microstrip patch with T-shaped or Yshaped slots [8], or a circular patch loading two pairs of arc-shaped slots [9], can achieve good dual-band CP performance. However, their dimensions are still larger to meet the miniaturization requirements of portable mobile devices.…”
