Single ionization of helium atoms by energetic fully stripped carbon ions

Abstract: A four-body distorted wave approximation is presented for theoretical investigations of the single ionization of ground-state helium atoms by fully stripped carbon ions at impact energies of 2 MeV/amu and 100 MeV/amu. The nine-dimensional integrals for the partial quantum-mechanical transition amplitudes of the specified reaction are reduced to some analytical expressions or one-dimensional integrals over real variables. Fully differential cross sections (FDCSs) are calculated and compared with their experimen… Show more

“…These measurements sparked significant theoretical activities as well. Initially, these studies were restricted to perturbative methods [29][30][31][32][33][34][35][36], but more recently non-perturbative calculations were reported [37][38][39].…”

“…FDCSs for 6 MeV proton-impact single ionization of hydrogen molecules and for electrons ejected into the scattering plane. The present calculations are compared to the experiments of [31] as well as the results obtained using the SCA [14] and TEC-1CW [25] methods. Ejected electron energies E e and momentum transfers q are shown.…”

“…Hereafter, the model is referred to as TEC-2CW. A detailed description of the TEC approximation can be found in [17][18][19][20][21] and the details of the 2CW model for ion-impact single ionization of atomic targets are available in [24,25]. However, in order to merge and apply the TEC and 2CW approximations to the specified reaction a brief derivation of the transition amplitude is given here.…”

“…The FDCS for the single ionization of helium by 2 MeV u −1 C 6+ was measured for electrons ejected into the zx plane [10,12]. The experimental data were analyzed by various theoretical models [12,25,35,[56][57][58][59], where the conventional (unconvoluted) FDCSs were evaluated except in reference [35]. Figure 5 shows FDCSs for ε e =1, 4, and 10 eV and for q′=0.45, 0.65, 1.0, and 1.5.…”
