Single Screw Extruder Characteristics on Friction and Heat Generated with the Barrel Carved Spiral Groove

Abstract: To make single-screw extruder with extrusion pressure enough, through theory of friction-induced extrusion pressure, which has been generally accepted in the industry. The barrel designed modular structure, in the before barrel carved groove, to add the friction coefficient between barrel and solid material. It form extrusion pressure In this section by exponential increase. This papers analyze that use of spiral groove instead of linear grooves can effectively reduce the frictional heat generation.

“…The mixing and thermal management of polymers melts in the screw system to become the key to determining the quality of the composite products [1,2]. The effects of barrel configurations and screw designs on heat and mass transfer have been investigated for a long time and have proved to be unquestionably important attributes for determining thermal efficacy and mixing effectiveness in extrusion and injection molding processes [3][4][5][6][7][8].…”

“…It is very important to optimize the structural parameters and working characteristics of the screw in order to enhance plasticization of polymers. The effect of barrel configurations and screw designs on heat and mass transfer has been investigated in the past and proved unquestionably important attributes for determining temperature uniformity and mixing effectiveness in extrusion and injection molding processes [3][4][5][6][7][8]. Different from conventional screw, the new types of screw can be roughly divided into four categories: distribution screws, barrier screws, separator screws, and channel screws with variable sections.…”
