Single-Side Superhydrophobicity in Si3N4-Doped and SiO2-Treated Polypropylene Nonwoven Webs with Antibacterial Activity

Abstract: Meltblown (MB) nonwovens as air filter materials have played an important role in protecting people from microbe infection in the COVID-19 pandemic. As the pandemic enters the third year in this current global event, it becomes more and more beneficial to develop more functional MB nonwovens with special surface selectivity as well as antibacterial activities. In this article, an antibacterial polypropylene MB nonwoven doped with nano silicon nitride (Si3N4), one of ceramic materials, was developed. With the i… Show more

“…Antibacterial gloves, clothing, masks, glasses, and other wearable equipment are very important for personal protection. Among them, wearing masks can particularly reduce the risk of spreading microorganism droplets . The COVID-19 epidemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus has made masks widely used as personal protective equipment.…”

“…Laminin has previously been identified as a protein that induces neurites. The presence of laminin not only improved neural cell proliferation but also resulted in extensive neuronal growth ( Zhang et al., 2020 ; Nazeri et al., 2021 ; Han et al., 2022 ). A conductive composite based on poly (p-dioxanone) (PPDO) and carbon nanotubes was electrospun in a recent study.…”

“…Melt-blown (MB) nonwovens modified on a surface with silica (prepared by the sol–gel method) and 0.6 wt% of Si 3 N 4 showed superhydrophobic (WCA 161.7°) and good bacteriostatic properties against E. coli and S. aureus , which increased >96% [ 222 ].…”
