“…The most commonly used molds/punches are considered to be of graphite for most of the composites and generally graphite sheets are used as a shroud between the sample and the mold-die punch to prevent the sticking of the sample and mold/punch for further use. 11,[68][69][70][71][72][73][74][78][79][80][81][82][83][84][85][86][87][88] The SPS process is entirely divided into four main stages which are (a) removal of gases from the chamber and generation of vacuum, (b) the two intermediate stages involves the simultaneous application of resistance heating and applied pressure, (c) cooling of sintered samples. 75 The existence of spark plasma and the occurrence of discharge have been a controversial issue and highly debatable in SPS sintering process.…”

“…Biswas et al 83 in 2020 sintered a composite comprising tungsten carbide particulate-reinforced α SiAlON using SPS so as to prepare a hard to hard phase configuration and the toughening of the hard matrix via particulate reinforcement. The results revealed elongated and equiaxed grains of α SiAlON whereas the tungsten carbide grains seemed to be equiaxed in nature.…”

“…However, the strength of the nanocomposite was considerably reduced due to the high interfacial mismatch strain developed [31,32]. Similarly, the hardness and fracture toughness of SiAlON can be improved by adding cBN inclusions [33] as well as WC particles [34]. As the thermal conductivity of SiC is significantly higher than that of SiAlON, adding 10-25 wt% SiC improves the thermal diffusivity of α-SiAlON by ~30-70%.…”
