Abstract:Background Senescence of alveolar epithelial cells (AEC) is a key event in the occurrence and development of Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The pathogenic mechanisms that underlie the effects of AEC senescence remain largely unexplained. Some age-related diseases have an etiology that is related to mitochondrial dysfunction induced by excessive lysine succinylation (Ksucc). Excessive Ksucc levels can be removed by SIRT5 to maintain mitochondrial homeostasis.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
