Site 808

Abstract: Principal results: Site 808 produced a continuously cored section through 1290 m of middle Miocene to Holocene (15 Ma to present) sediments at the toe of the accretionary prism. The upper 560 m of sediments are dominantly turbidites that have traveled along the Nankai Trough from the Izu collision zone to the east and have been deposited at the high rate of more than 1 km/m.y. The lower sediments are mainly hemipelagic muds that accumulated away from the trench in the Shikoku Basin.
