Site selective substitution and its influence on photoluminescence properties of Sr0.8Li0.2Ti0.8Nb0.2O3:Eu3+ phosphors

Abstract: Effects of substitution of Eu3+ ions at Sr2+ sites and simultaneously at Sr2+ and Ti4+ sites on the luminescence properties of lithium niobate incorporated strontium titanate.

“…The color purity is utmost (94.9%) for more than 5 at% Li + incorporation however for without Li + co-doped phosphor it is only 92.4%. It is higher than recently reported color purity of ZrO 2 : Eu 3+ , Li + (86%), Sr 0.8 Li 0.2 Ti 0.8 Nb 0.2 O 3 : Eu 3+ (94.7%), CaW 0.4 Mo 0.6 O 4 :Eu 3+ (93.8%) 30,41,42 . Although, for other excitation wavelength (395 and 465 nm), red color purity is decreased because for these excitations intensity of electric dipole is not much high as compared to magnetic dipole transitions.…”

“…In the excitation spectra, there is a charge CTB from 250 to 440 nm with the center of the band located at 340 nm. The position of the CTB depends on the covalent relationship between the O 2– ion and the central metal ion, the length of the oxygen‐metal bond and the coordination number of the metal ion 48 . In the composite host, the contribution in the CTB may be owing to a spectral overlap rather than one component, which corresponds to the overall combination of metal‐oxygen polyhedrons in the crystal, represented in sample as the combination of O 2 p →Nb 4 d , O 2 p →Eu 4 f , and O 2 p →Mo 4 d charge migration bands 28,41,49 .…”

“…Their unique optical properties such as extended luminescence times, narrow emission ranges, and excellent photostability are of great interest. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8] In the development of luminescent materials, the grain morphology of ceramic phosphors has an effect on the luminescence. Therefore, the grain size, and grain shape of phosphor may play an important role in the correlation between the material and spectral properties.…”
