Site-Specific Earthquake Ground Motions for Seismic Design of Port Facilities in Indonesia

Abstract: In Indonesia, infrastructure, such as port facilities, has been damaged by earthquakes. Therefore, evaluating rational earthquake ground motions (EGMs) for seismic design is necessary to mitigate earthquake disasters in the future. The EGMs in the Indonesian Seismic Code are stipulated based on the ASCE standards and not on site-specific ones. This study aims to propose site-specific EGMs for the seismic design of port facilities in Indonesia. The EGM records and ground data in Indonesia were used for analysis… Show more

“…Furthermore, the inaccurate estimation of inertial forces contributed to errors in estimating the seismic response of corroded PSWs. This study considered site-specific spectral acceleration (SA) for port facilities in Indonesia [61] developed based on earthquake ground motion records in Indonesia for the site class of medium soil (SD) (Figure 11). Table 7 compares the inertial forces of the corroded PSW calculated based on the SA and the natural periods of the corroded PSW by FB-FEA, FA-1, and FA-2.…”

“…To investigate the effect of waveform duration on the seismic response of PSW, this study employed two distinct waveforms: short-duration waveform (SDW) and longduration waveform (LDW). We used two reference waveforms observed in Indonesia [37], as shown in Figure 3. These waveforms were modified to match the target SA on Indonesian site class E [37] (Figure 4).…”

“…We used two reference waveforms observed in Indonesia [37], as shown in Figure 3. These waveforms were modified to match the target SA on Indonesian site class E [37] (Figure 4). The following procedures were implemented based on the observation that the frequency characteristics of the Fourier spectrum of a waveform and SA are similar [38].…”
