Six Sigma application in a process industry for capacity waste reduction: A case study

Abstract: Today energy is directly related with progress or growth of any country and every event requires a huge amount of energy. In today's global competitiveness, demand for energy is very high and India is facing a problem of very poor energy supply. So, researchers and planners are worried about very poor productivity of thermal power plant and the most critical cause for this problem is high capacity waste at these plants. This paper focuses on causes of capacity waste and for this, DMAIC approach is adopted. The… Show more

“…The rate of CU in the Indian paper industry has been estimated by using the theoretical framework of the variable cost function Jaglan et al (2013) Time series method This paper presents the main reason for CW of the thermal power plant and found that economizer, superheater and re-heater are the main cause of CW Kumar et al (2017) Time series method The authors find out the main reason behind the capacity wastage of thermal power plant and found that economizer, superheater and re-heater are the main cause of non-availability of system Deb (2014)…”

“…Mehrjerdi (2011) determined the SS DMAIC methodology application that included describing the problem to the control of the method to improve output. The key objective of SS is to attain the quality of products by enhancing the process and mitigating source causes of defects (P. Kumar et al , 2017). Antony et al (2005) presented an analysis of the status of SS execution in SMEs in the UK.…”

“…On the other hand, CW is related to production, planning and control, quality assurance, facilities and equipment in the manufacturing decision-making process (Jaglan et al, 2013). It became essential to control the CW because it is majorly responsible for productivity decrement within industries worldwide (Kumar et al, 2017). 5.2.2 Understanding the problem.…”
