Six Sigma's critical success factors and toolbox

Abstract: Purpose -The purpose of this paper is to put forward and classify the critical success factors (CSF) of Six Sigma implementation, as well as the tools-techniques that it utilizes in all the phases of the Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control (DMAIC) structured methodology. Design/methodology/approach -A literature review of Six Sigma's CSF has been realized and also an attempt to connect them with the enablers of European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM). A literature review of the tools and technique… Show more

“…The DMAIC cycle is a more detailed version of the Deming PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) cycle with continuous improvement. The different phases (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control) provide a problem-solving process in which specific tools has employed to turn a practical problem into a statistical problem, generate a statistical solution, and then convert that back into a practical solution [4].…”

“…Six Sig ma is an imp rovement methodology, developed by Motorola in the 1980s wh ich were fo llo wed by many big industries across the world such as GE, Honeywell and Nissan [40]. Six Sig ma was a way to exp ress its quality goal of 3.4 DPM O where defect opportunity is a process failure that is critical to the customer.…”

“…Six Sig ma is a quality imp rovement framework fo r controlling processes and getting results in terms of bottom line improvement through the use quantitative tools and techniques [40]. Six Sig ma is a systematic methodology that uses statistical and non-statistical tools and techniques to maximize an organization's return on investment (ROI) through continuous quality improvement of processes by reducing defects and non-conformance [22].…”
