Size measurement and filled/unfilled detection of rice grains using backlight image processing

Xiao Feng,
Zhiqi Wang,
Zhiwei Zeng
et al.

Abstract: Measurements of rice physical traits, such as length, width, and percentage of filled/unfilled grains, are essential steps of rice breeding. A new approach for measuring the physical traits of rice grains for breeding purposes was presented in this study, utilizing image processing techniques. Backlight photography was used to capture a grayscale image of a group of rice grains, which was then analyzed using a clustering algorithm to differentiate between filled and unfilled grains based on their grayscale val… Show more

“…Existing researches on seed size measurement based on traditional image processing methods have made great progress, for example, the ImageJ (Rasband, 2011), SmartGrain (Tanabata et al, 2012), GrainScan (Whan et al, 2014), Museed (Gao et al, 2017), and GridFree (Hu and Zhang, 2021). Moreover, researchers (Feng et al, 2023) used blacklight image processing technology for rice grain size measurement and lled/un lled grain detection. Although these methods have been developed for seed/grain size measurement with reasonable accuracies, they need to be threshed before measurement.…”
