Abstract:The effects of cyclodextrins (a-, ~3-, and 7-CDs) on the monomer-dimer equilibria of phenothiazine dyes (methylene blue (MB), thionine (TH), and 1,9-dimethyl-methylene blue (DMMB)) have been studied using absorption spectroscopy. The positions of the monomer-dimer equilibria do not change by the presence of a-CD, while the addition of ~3-CD suppresses the dimerization. This is attributed to that the cavity of n-CD is large enough to stabilize dye monomers by the formation of inclusion complexes, while that of … Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
