Size-tunable near-infrared PbS nanoparticles synthesized from lead carboxylate and sulfur with oleylamine as stabilizer

Abstract: High quality PbS nanocrystals are synthesized reproducibly through lead stearate and sulfur stabilized by oleylamine in a non-coordinating solvent. The morphology, crystalline form and phase composition of PbS nanocrystals are examined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution TEM, x-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The as-synthesized PbS nanocrystals have strong absorption and photoluminescence emissions in the near-… Show more

“…[23] The broad peaks of S 2p can be separated into two peaks at 163.5 eV and 162.3 eV, corresponding to S 2p1/2 and S 2p3/2, respectively. Notably, the values are much higher than the data reported for PbS in the literature ( % 160.7 eV for S 2p3/2), [21,24] but in good agreement with those documented for disulfides and/or polysulfides ( % 162.1 eV for S 2p3/2).…”

“…The results of the XRD patterns of the HDA and TOPO capped PbS nanocrystals prepared from Pb(NO 3 ) 2 indicate that samples were crystalline and the patterns are in good agreement with the bulk PbS crystal. The major diffraction peaks could be indexed as (1 1 1), (2 0 0), (2 2 0), (3 1 1), (2 2 2), (4 0 0), (3 3 1), (4 2 0), and (4 2 2) planes of cubic PbS, which is consistent with values reported in the literature [21,29,40].…”

“…These include hydrothermal and solvothermal methods [21,22], microwave-assisted heating [23], thermal decomposition methods [24], electrodeposition [25], templateand surfactant assisted methods [26,27] and hot injection precursor methods [17,[28][29][30][31]. The hot injection routes involve the injection of the lead salt and sulphur source into co-ordinating solvents.…”

“…Up to date, many kinds of QDs with different size, shape, and composition have been extensively investigated for not only their theoretical fundaments but also their practical applications [7][8][9]. As an important branch of QDs materials, the near-infrared emitting (NIR) QDs with emission range of 700-1300 nm are becoming increasingly attractive in the last 5 years [10][11][12]. This is because absorption and scattering by biological tissues is much reduced in this spectral window compared to the visible range.…”
