In recent years, there has been a growing appreciation for the complex nature of the microcirculation, its structure, hemodynamics, reactivity, and the impact of states of elevated disease risk.Investigators are now routinely faced with growing challenges in terms of not just conceptualizing the complexity of the microcirculation, but also in terms of how to acquire and analyze the data required to develop this integrated understanding of a biological system that is consistently changing across a wide spectrum of both physiological and pathological conditions. Based on this ongoing evolution in our collective understanding of the microcirculation and our diverse efforts to uncover its behavior and characteristics,
