Abstract:This Account summarizes the fascinating chemistry of cyclopropyl-stabilized silylium ions which are readily available from vinylcyclopropanes (VCPs). Depending on the nucleophilic partner, these reactive intermediates undergo either direct ring opening or ring expansion to nonclassical alkene-stabilized silylium ions.
