Skin hypersensitivity to parainfluenza‐3 virus in cattle

Abstract: Summary Skin hypersensitivity to parainfluenca‐3 virus in cattle A skin hypersensitivity to parainfluenza‐3 virus (PIV‐3) was induced in cattle by previous natural infection with PIV‐3. Very young calves, possessing what was considered to be exclusively maternal antibodies to PIV‐3, did not show any skin hypersensitivity. Zusammenfassung Haut‐Überempfindlichkeit gegenüber Parainfluenza‐3‐Virus bei Rindern Bei Rindern kam es nach natürlicher Infektion mit Parainfluenza 3‐Virus zu einer Überempfindlichkeit der H… Show more

“…The viral antigens for SH, LMI and LS tests were prepared as described before (MOREIN & MORENO-LOPEZ, 1973). The antigen used in LMI and LS tests were diluted in TC medium Parker 199 or RPMI 1640 medium with 232 MORENO-L6PEZ hepes buffer (Flow Laboratories, Glasgow) supplemented with penicillin (200 IU/ml.)…”

“…In order to evaluate the importance of CMI in the immune defence it is necessary to elaborate and adapt test systems whose results would reflect the CMI response of cattle to PIV-3. Previous work has shown that the skin-hypersensitivity (SH) test (MOREIN & MORENO-LOPEZ, 1973;MORENO-LOPEZ et al, 1976) and the lymphocyte-stimulation (LS) test (JOHNSON & MOREIN, 1976) can be used. The present work also includes the leucocytemigration inhibition (LMI) test in agar gel.…”

“…Without biopsies of positive skin test sites it is difficult to evaluate whether the reactions demonstrated represent an immediate or delayed type of hypersensitivity. MOREIN and MORENO-LOPEZ (5) suggested that in parainfluenza-3 (PI-3) infected cattle, even very early skin reactions were of the delayed type. In our study the largest reactions were observed 24 hours after antigen injection.…”
