Skin Manifestations associated with Mantle cell Lymphoma: a case report

Abstract: Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a distinct non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma type that commonly affects extra nodal sites. The most often affected sites are bone marrow, gastrointestinal tract and Waldeyer’s ring, being the skin rarely involved. We report a case of 56 year-old man with MCL, exhibiting multiple large maculopapular skin rashes and skin ulcers. Histopathological examination had not shown direct infiltration by any atypical cells. He had significant improvement of skin lesions with combination chemotherapy and… Show more

“…2,3 Most patients present with an advanced stage of the disease, with multiple lymphatic involvement and hepatosplenomegaly, which carries worse prognosis. 2,7 In some patients, MCL involves extranodal organs, particularly bone marrow, peripheral blood, and gastrointestinal sites, 2,6,9 which makes it challenging to perform an initial staging and determine the treatment plan. European MCL Network developed a Mantle Cell International Prognostic Index (MIPI) that can be used for risk stratification and allows clinicians to perform a risk-adapted therapy and interventions.…”

“…Histologically, the lymph nodes exhibit effacement by a monomorphic lymphoid proliferation, typically composed of small to medium-sized lymphocytes with irregular or cleaved nuclei, most closely resembling centrocytes. Immunophenotypically, the tumor cells are positive for the markers CD5, SOX11, FMC7 and B-cell markers (CD19, CD20, CD22, CD79a) (1, 6).…”

“…MCL frequently involves extranodal organs including the bone marrow, gastrointestinal tract and Waldeyer's ring but rarely affects the skin (6). In a large series of 121 cases of MCL only 3 had skin lesions., respectively (5).…”
