Skin sebum and skin elasticity: Major influencing factors for facial pores

Abstract: Summary Objective The current research work was initiated to develop anti‐aging phytocosmetic formulation of phytoantioxidant, to evaluate their effect on human skin, and to link R parameters of skin with skin sebum and aging. Methods According to COLIPA, 10 healthy male volunteers, aged between 20 and 30 years, having no skin infection or other hypersensitivity disorders, were included in the study. The effect of formulation was evaluated on skin pores and skin elasticity on cheeks for 90 days at regular inte… Show more

“…Sebum decrease could therefore prevent from developing other conditions such as acne, folliculitis, seborrheic dermatitis, and subsequent scarring 23,24 . In fact, recent findings have found a direct correlation between skin elasticity improvement, increased hydration and reduced sebum production as a result of the optimal balance of the hydrolipid film on skin 21,22,25 . This may prevent the development of cutaneous lesions derived from sebum excess and abnormal epithelial desquamation 21 …”

“…Both treatment groups decreased the sebum production at 3 and 6 months. Skin pore number and size reduction, which is an important entrance way of bacteria, has been shown to be related with a decrease of sebum production 21,22 . Sebum decrease could therefore prevent from developing other conditions such as acne, folliculitis, seborrheic dermatitis, and subsequent scarring 23,24 .…”
