Skin Wound Healing and Phytomedicine: A Review

Abstract: Skin integrity is restored by a physiological process aimed at repairing the damaged tissues. The healing process proceeds in four phases: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation and remodeling. Phytomedicine presents remedies, which possess significant pharmacological effects. It is popular amongst the general population in regions all over the world. Phytotherapeutic agents have been largely used for cutaneous wound healing. These include Aloe vera, mimosa, grape vine, Echinacea, chamomile, ginseng, green te… Show more

It is consumed as a functional food with antimicrobial capacity (Nguyen et al 2014) and a phytomedicine for skin wound healing (Pazyar et al 2014). It had inhibition of formalin-induced pain and inflammation in mice (Emami et al 2013) and H 2 O 2 induced oxidative DNA damage in human lymphocytes (Razavi-Azarkhiavi et al 2014).…”

“…Wound healing involves a series of complex pathophysiological processes, which includes the inflammation, proliferation and migration of repaired cells, in addition to the formation and tissue remodeling of granulation tissues (9). Factors that are able to disrupt these processes may impact wound Seawater immersion may increase tissue damage; SIBIW is a type of complex and comprehensive damage (11).…”

“…Skin integrity is restored by a physiological process aimed at repairing the damaged tissues. The healing process proceeds in four phases: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation and remodeling [14]. The time required for complete healing of deep seconddegree burns, without the application of specific therapeutic agents, can be three to six weeks or more, and a scar tissue may appear [15].…”
