Sliding mode controller‐based voltage source inverter for power quality improvement in microgrid

Abstract: Development of control technologies facilitates the integration of renewable energy sources to the grid through power electronic converters. In this study, the inverter acts as shunt active power filter along with the power conversion operation. Various sliding mode control (SMC) techniques namely relay and signum method, hysteresis method and equivalent control method are implemented to control the real, and reactive power flow between Renewable Energy System (RES), load and grid using an inverter. To reduce … Show more

“…[32], multiple-input multiple-output SMC has been used to control the grid-connected wind energy conversion system Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) based. SMC has been used in different applications like controlling of shunt active power of a filter [33], multiarea interconnected power systems [34], controlling a Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) [35], and for PV scopes such as Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) [36][37][38]. “…However, main issues which were found in this article are related to the chattering phenomenon that is a disadvantage of SMC. The drawback of the SMC robustness is the inclusion of a discontinuous term that induces switching states and hence, the damage of actuators and energy consumption [36]. To end with the fast position tracking problem for the permanent magnet linear motor (PMLM) system under a chattering-reduced sliding mode control signal, a class of globally nonsingular sliding mode control (SMC) laws, called logarithmic sliding mode (LnSM) control, is proposed in ref.…”

“…In [6][7][8], comprehensive reviews of issues such as power management strategies and protection methods in MGs are presented. The overviews of the MGs control methods are given in [9][10][11][12][13]. Harmonics distortions are one of the main challenges which need to be resolved before MGs become commonplace.…”
