Slip‐Cast Ce0.8Sm0.2O1.9 Cone‐Shaped SOFC

Abstract: Cone‐shaped Sm‐doped CeO2 (Ce0.8Sm0.2O1.9, SDC) electrolyte cylinders have been fabricated using the slip‐casting technique. A single solid oxide fuel cell has been prepared by applying a Sm0.5Sr0.5CoO3 cathode on the outside of the cylinders and a NiO–SDC (7:3 wt%) anode on the inside. The open circuit voltage of the cell was 0.93 V at 400°C, and a maximum power density of about 300 mW/cm2 at 700°C was obtained with humidified hydrogen (3% H2O) as the fuel and ambient air as the oxidant. Impedance results sho… Show more

“…Suppose the stack consists of two cells in electrical series with OCVs and resistances of E 1 , E 2 and r 1 , r 2 , respectively. The maximum power of the stack is P s =( E 1 + E 2 ) 2 /4(r 1 + r 2 ) [1] The power sum of the two segmented cells is: [2] It is deduced P s -P c = -[r 1 r 2 /4(r 1 + r 2 )]( E 1 /r 1 -E 2 /r 2 ) 2 ≤0 [3] Note E 1 /r 1 and E 2 /r 2 are the short-circuit currents of cell 1 and cell 2, respectively. Only when their short-circuit currents equal to each other does P s equals to P c .…”

“…Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) have attracted more and more interest due to their fuel flexibility, low pollution emission and high conversion efficiency in converting the chemical energy of fuel into electrical energy [1][2][3][4][5][6] . Cone-shaped tubular SOFCs, as one of the SOFC designs, are composed of a series of cone-shaped anode-supported cell units [7][8][9] . Each unit as a single cell is connected with the next to form tubular structure, which the gas and electricity could transmission in it.…”
