Sloshing Reduction Using Floating Mat for Floating LNG Cargo Containment System

Abstract: Every effort has been tried for the reduction of sloshing impact loading to the LNG Cargo Containment System (CCS). And, a new type of floating mat system is recently considered for the further sloshing reduction to mitigate the sloshing impact loading in partial filling of the LNG CCS. In this study, model scale sloshing tests are carried out with partial filled tank heights for the comparison of the reduction effects of a new type of floating mat system on the sloshing induced impact loading, and model scale… Show more

“…This layer would mimic a blanket to cover the LNG surface. This is similar to the samsung heavy industries (SHI) design for an LNG ABAS blanket involving one-metre cubes of Basotect foam (MarineLink, 2013) used as an anti-sloshing and BOG inhibiting device (Lee et al, 2014(Lee et al, , 2016. The system proposed does not focus on anti-sloshing but on instigating more effective tank pressure management.…”

“…In constrast to the anti-sloshing ABAS Blanket system (MarineLink, 2013;Lee et al, 2014;Lee et al, 2016), the freefloating soft metal blanket (FSMB) concept so far described is not intended to prevent sloshing. As FSRU/FSU typically tend to be moored in sheltered areas, sloshing is not a major operational issue for them.…”
