Abstract

Slovensk succes: Korporatisme og konsensusSlovenia is a democratic and economic success story. Reforms have been made in collaboration with partners on the labour market. Thereby the Slovenes have continued their historical tradition of corporatism -a system in which interest organizations, in exchange for recognition from the state, become partners in political negotiations. Through corporatism, the Slovenes have achieved both political stability and smooth implementation of economic reforms. Corporatism is deeply rooted in Slovene history. The decision to implement market economy and democracy could only be made by suspending the institutions of corporatism. However, once the decision was made, corporatism proved remarkably robust. It has thrived and developed under the new mantle of democracy and market economy, bolstered by the Slovene value system and strong vested interests.
