Slow-Release Humic Acid-Based Zinc Fertilizers Improve Growth and Nutrition of Maize and Brachiaria Grass Successively Grown in Oxisols

Abstract: Zinc (Zn) fertilization efficiency is often low in Oxisols due to the interaction of Zn with soil constituents and phosphorus (P). When Zn is supplied in soil fertilization as a complex via slow-release organomineral fertilizers (OMFs), it is less prone to react with soil constituents and P, thus increasing the efficiency of Zn supply to crops. However, obtaining effective synthesis routes for the production of enhanced-efficiency Zn-OMFs for Oxisols is still a challenge. In this study, we synthesized Zn-OMFs … Show more

“…The main peaks and bands observed in the spectra were identified. To identify primary linkages, organic functional groups, and spectroscopic signatures generated in the range of 3500 to 600 cm −1 , the composites' and biochars' FTIR spectra and their bands were interpreted based on the libraries available elsewhere [26][27][28][29][30][31].…”

“…Fertilization was performed by adding to soil 400 mg kg −1 N, 600 mg kg −1 P, and 400 mg kg −1 K. Regarding composites formulated with DAP, a lower N dose (270 mg kg −1 N, compared with 400 mg kg −1 N added in other treatments, was provided to maize plants. Micronutrient fertilization with Zn, Cu, Mn, and B at the concentrations of 4, 2.50, 2.65, and 1.1 mg kg −1 , respectively, was also performed with the use of pure per analysis sulfate salts and boric acid [27]. Fertilization was performed one day before maize planting, which took place on 28 March 2023.…”

“…Two extraction solutions were chosen to evaluate the kinetics of P release; therefore, water and CA were used at 2% concentration as extractant solutions. The fertilizers were incubated with sand in a mini-lysimeter with periodic leaching of incubated BBFs with distilled water [32] or with a 2% CA solution, hereafter defined as a new method to evaluate the dynamics of P in leachates of the BBFs incubated in sandy substrate. In the mini-lysimeter, 200 mg kg −1 P was added to sand based on the P-Total of each BBF.…”

“…Maize top-dressing fertilization was carried out at 14 and 21 days after planting, adding to soil 125 mg N per kg of soil supplied as NH4NO3 (Reagent grade, Synth, Diadema, Brazil). Maize was grown in the two Oxisols for 30 days based on other studies [32]. After the maize cultivation, in each experimental unit, ten seeds of brachiaria were sowed per pot.…”
