SUMMARYUse of dipole antennas for portable wireless transceivers has been attempted. In order to realize this application, it is necessary to add a matching network and a balun or a folded configuration. Hence, integration is found difficult. In this paper, a T-type monopole antenna with a parallel resonance mode is proposed. It is shown by simulation and measurement with a 2-GHz handset model that this antenna does not require any balun, is capable of self-matching, and can suppress unwanted radiation from the case as for a dipole antenna.
