He subsequently served on faculty at Washington University for many years before co-founding his private practice, Cutaneous Pathology, WCP Pathology, Inc. During his career, he published over 100 papers in the medical literature, including original descriptions of 25 new entities. He was the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Seminars in Diagnostic Pathology, in addition to serving on editorial boards of 10 other scientific journals. He had an impressive global presence, with mentees spread across the continents of North and South America and Europe. In 2010, he was awarded the Founders Award from the American Society of Dermatopathology, a lifetime award given for outstanding and significant contributions to the field.
