Small mammals of the Dalat Plateau, southern Vietnam

Abstract: ABSTRACT. Field surveys within the Bi Doup Nui Ba National Park located in north-east part of the Dalat Plateau (Lam Dong Province, southern Vietnam), from 2002 to 2009, have allowed us to document the local presence of 36 species of small mammals. These include one tree shrew (Tupaiidae), one mole (Talpidae), three shrews (Soricidae), two roundleaf bats (Hipposideridae), two horseshoe bats (Rhinolophidae), eight evening bats (Vespertilionidae), one bent-winged bat (Miniopteridae), six squirrels (Sciuridae), t… Show more

“…Observed echolocation calls were typical to Myotis steep FM with maximum energy at approximately 60 kHz. This differs significantly from very silent and more low frequency (4245 kHz) echolocation calls observed in previously known sites (Borisenko et al, 2009;Abramov et al, 2010). Such difference in the design of echolocation calls well correlate with vocalization variability observed by us in different populations of M. siligorensis alticraniatus (Kruskop, 2003;Abramov & Kruskop, 2012 …”

“…Described only few years ago (Borisenko et al, 2009), Myotis phanluongi was known from only two places in Southern Vietnam: terra typica on Hon Ba Mountain in Khanh Hoa Province and Danim River Valley on Da Lat Plateau between Bi Doup and Hon Giao mountains, Lam Dong Province (Abramov et al, 2010;Kruskop, 2013). In both sites this species was recorded at elevations of 13001500 m above sea level and observed foraging over mountainous brooks and small rivers (Kruskop, 2013).…”

“…The status of endemic small-toothed mole E. parvidens was assessed by Kawada et al (2009), and was recently re-evaluated by Zemlemerova et al (2016) who described a new subspecies, E. parvidens ngoclinhensis, from the Kon Tum Plateau. The nominotypical subspecies E. parvidens parvidens is restricted to the Dalat Plateau, including the Chu Yang Sin National Park in Dak Lak Province (Kawada et al, 2009) and the Bi Doup-Nui Ba National Park in Lam Dong Province (Abramov et al, 2010;Zemlemerova et al, 2016). During our surveys, three specimens were collected from the Song Thanh NR ( Fig.…”

“…Additional specimens from southern Vietnam were recorded recently (Abramov et al 2009; Jenkins et al 2010) and tissue samples from these specimens were included in the molecular analysis by Bannikova et al (2011).…”
