Small-scale Experimental Test Rig for Lateral Vehicle Control

Abstract: This paper presents the design and implementation of a small-scale hardware-in-the-loop test environment for lateral vehicle dynamics controllers. The test rig consists of a conveyor belt and a 1:10 scale model vehicle. The vehicle is anchored to the frame of the conveyor belt using a special fixture, which constrains only the longitudinal displacement of the car. Therefore, the longitudinal velocity of the vehicle is provided by the conveyor belt, while the steering is generated by the computational unit, whe… Show more

“…Therefore, laboratory experiments can be used as an intermediate step to verify the theoretical calculations in a cost-effective way (Gietelink et al (2009)). For this purpose, a small-scale experimental measurement setup was built, which makes the testing of different lane-keeping control algorithms possible (Vörös et al (2021)).…”

“…In order to validate our theoretical results on the stability of the controlled reverse motion of the vehicle, laboratory experiments were carried out. The small-scale test rig of [11] was used, in which a 1:10 vehicle model can be controlled on a treadmill. The car-trailer system was constructed as shown in Fig.…”
