Small shower array for education purposes -the CREDO-Maze Project.

Abstract: We have noticed in many places around the world in recent years an increasing interest in smallscale extensive air shower experiments designed to satisfy young people's scientific curiosity and develop their interest in science and in physics in particular. It is difficult to think of ways and opportunities to introduce practical classes in modern high-energy physics, astrophysics, or particle physics into school curricula and after-school activities. Small EAS array experiments are just such a proposal. As pa… Show more

“…In several countries, attempts are being made to introduce such projects in schools to stimulate interest in cosmic ray physics. In some countries, this endeavor has already been achieved on a smaller or larger scale, for example, the High School Project on Astrophysics Research with Cosmics (HiSPARC) [2] in the Netherlands, as well as WALTA [3], NALTA, ALTA [4], SALTA, CZELTA [5], SKALTA, CHICOS [6], CROP, CosMO [7], or Maze [8][9][10]. In several centers, work is in progress on the construction stage of prototypes or the research and development stage.…”

“…The project is conducting advanced research on detection and classification of particle types based on deep learning models [ 82 ]. CREDO project uses smartphone-based detectors and additionally integrates data from other sources such as simple scintillation detectors [ 83 , 84 , 85 , 86 , 87 ]. The data collected by the CREDO project is stored in open repositories and are available for scientific purposes.…”
