Small‐size printed monopole with a printed distributed inductor for pentaband WWAN mobile phone application

Abstract: In this article, a small-size printed monopole embedded with a printed narrow strip as a distributed inductor for application in the mobile phone to achieve GSM850/900/1800/1900/UMTS pentaband wireless wide area network operation is presented. With the printed distributed inductor, the fundamental (lowest) resonant mode of the proposed antenna can be effectively shifted to lower frequencies with a wide operating bandwidth, owing to the contributed inductance of the printed distributed inductor compensating for… Show more

“…Many technologies have been studied to realize multiband capabilities, including coupling feed technologies [3][4][5], slot loaded technologies [6,7], loading the matching network [8], loading printed distributed inductance technologies [9], and fractal technologies [10]. Three design approaches have been adopted to control the current path and resonant mode on the radiators.…”

“…Meanwhile, CPW-fed is the most popular feeding structures adopted in recent literatures [4][5][6]. In order to better achieve the multiband and miniaturization, many technologies have been studied, such as coupling feed technology [7][8][9], slot loaded technology [10][11], loading the matching network [12], and loading printed distributed inductance technology [13] and fractal technology [14]. Inverted L-slot patch with a defected ground plane is used for triple-band operation in [15], whereas three circular-arc-shaped strips whose whole geometry looks like "ear"-type antenna are reported to cover the desirable bands for WLAN/WiMAX wireless communication terminal in [16].…”
