“…When the five studies restricted to first-trimester smallpox vaccine exposure were analyzed, an association with congenital defects was seen (2.4% compared with 1.5%, pooled RR 1.34, 95% CI 1.02–1.77). 8,12,21,22,29 Overall, the rate of congenital defects ranged from 0.0% to 4.5% among women vaccinated at any time during pregnancy, 0.6–4.5% among women vaccinated in the first trimester, and 0.8–3.7% among unexposed women.
